In January 2023, Gala was admitted to Virginia Tech, USA, by the State Polytechnic University to pursue a Ph.D. with a full scholarship. She was also hired by the university as a research assistant. The research she conducts in the context of Transorganic Exchanges will be funded by the United States government and Virginia Tech. However, her experiments and application territories will continue to be in Argentina and Latin America.

The Ph.D. program is interdisciplinary, grounding her research in the departments of Art-Design and Architecture, Computer Science, and Applied Economics to science, technology, and society. Gala also serves as an ambassador for UNTREF at Virginia Tech, facilitating exchange programs and collaborations between the two institutions, such as the one she has been promoting since 2022 with the laptop orchestra.
